New Year Cleanse

Happy New Year! It is 2015 and I have officially decided to begin writing on my blog after having it for 2 years already. What better time to start something that I have wanted to do but up until now always procrastinated than in the new year?

Another thing I have always wanted to do is a juice cleanse. Actually, I did try a 3 day juice cleanse in 2008 but it was a disaster. The juices I made at home were mostly terrible and I ended up drinking store bought carrot juice for 3 days and pretty much felt like I was starving.

This time around, I have chosen a guided do-it-yourself program. I will be using superfood supplements and a suggested meal plan from Philosophie Superfoods. It also includes probiotic pills and detox tea to aid in healthy digestion. You can find more info on this cleanse at This is not your ordinary juice cleanse. It includes fresh smoothies, salads, and soups. The DIY option gives you the opportunity to learn to prepare and cook healthy meals. There will be no starving during this cleanse…at least that is my hope! Sophie’s promise is “This is not about deprivation. This is about nourishment that naturally cues your body to release what it doesn’t need.”


In preparation for this 5 day cleanse, I am currently cutting out breads, processed foods and sugar, red meat, coffee, and limiting dairy. I will officially start the cleanse this weekend.

Today’s lunch consisted of this yummy mixed green and kale salad. I used a homemade creamy avocado-cilantro dressing that I got from my friend and fellow yoga teacher Nicole Buckley @kneadinghome. Find her on Instagram and follow her blog! She has super yummy, healthy recipes. I added grape tomatoes, chia seeds, and pumpkin and sunflower seeds to make it more hearty and filling.


If you haven’t tried raw kale in your salad or find it too tough, try massaging the leaves in olive oil. Massaging it makes it super tender and also giving your food a little hands on love will add an extra element to your food. “Made with love” is a real thing that enhances your food experience.
